When the Memphis Grizzlies tip off the 2023-24 NBA season they will do so without Ja Morant as the NBA announced Friday morning it handed down a 25 game suspension to the star guard due to his penchant for fliahing guns on social media. Ealier in the season, Morant received an unplanned 8-game vacation when brandished a weapon on an Instagram live video. That seemingly did not get Morant’s attention as barely two months later, Morant was captured in another social media video displayiing a weapon.
However Morant will not simply serve his suspension and then return to play, he will have to construct and fufill certain obligations before he will be reinstated.
“Ja Morant’s decision to once again wield a firearm on social media is alarming and disconcerting given his similar conduct in March for which he was already suspended eight games”
NBA Commisioner Adam Silver
Morant has issued a statement following the news on his suspension in which he apologized to the Association, his teammates, fans and his sponsors in which he asked to to be given “the chance to prove to you over time I’m a better man than what I have been showing you.”
For Morant, the clock on that redemption process and to make good on that promise starts now.
